Beyond the Book Fair — Family Engagement Programming
¡Viva! Los Libros partners with schools and school districts to co-create interactive, culturally relevant family and community engagement programs. All programs feature local Latinx authors, musicians, or artists alongside a thematic book selection, and can be held as part of a book fair or scheduled independently as part of literacy nights, heritage month activities, or school spirit events. Let's talk about your budget and explore what is possible!
Canta y Cuento
Bilingual music and storytelling for young readers and their families, featuring local Latinx musicians and authors.
Café con Libros
A community reading and conversation event pairing a curated book selection with cultural programming.
Bilingual Family Storytelling
Author or artist-led events celebrating the oral tradition across languages and cultures — co-created with your school's community and calendar.
How We Curate Our Collection
Every book in a ¡Viva! Los Libros collection is highly vetted. We prioritize:
- Anti-racist and anti-bias titles that meet the standards of culturally relevant education for children and young people
- Books that feature people, not animals — in 2020, over 70% of children's books featured white children or animal characters; only 37% featured Black, Latinx, Native American, Asian/Asian American, or Pacific Islander characters. Our collections are built to reverse that ratio.
- Authors and illustrators from BIPOC, Latinx, LGBTQIA+, and disabled communities — lived experience is not interchangeable, and people should tell their own stories
- High-quality Spanish and bilingual texts — whether sourced from Latin American publishers or in translation, each selected to support language learning and cultural affirmation
